Dr. Yair Levy - Professor of Information Systems and Cyber-Security

     Dr. Yair Levy is a Professor of Information Systems and Cybersecurity at the College of Computing and Engineering (CCE), at Nova Southeastern University(NSU), the Director of the Center for Information Protection, Education, and Research (CIPhER), and chair of the Cybersecurity Curriculum Committee at the college overseeing the Ph.D. program in Cybersecurity Management (DCM), the Masters in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity (Network Security Engineering), and Masters in Cybersecurity Management - both MS programs are designated programs by DHS/NSA as part of NSU's designation of National Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cyber Defense (CD). He joined the college as an Assistant Professor in 2003, was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2007, and was promoted again to full Professor in 2012. In November 2015, he was named Professor of the Year for 2014-2015. Prior to joining the college, Dr. Levy was an instructor at the department of Decision Science and Information Systems (DSIS) and the director of Online Learning at the College of Business Administration, Florida International University. During the mid to late 1990s, Dr. Levy assisted NASA to develop e-learning platforms as well as manage Internet and Web infrastructures. He earned his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology). He received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with Management Information Systems (MIS) concentration and Ph.D. in MIS from Florida International University.
     He heads the Levy CyLab, which conducts innovative research from the human-centric lens cybersecurity, social engineering, and cyber threat mitigation, as well as their interconnections. Dr. Levy is the author of the book Assessing the Value of e-Learning Systems (2006). His research publications were cited over 4,200 times, which appear in the journal of Information and Computer Security (ICS), Journal of Intellectual Capital (JIC), Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS), Journal of Organizational and End User Computing (JOEUC), Online Journal of Applied Knowledge Management (OJAKM), Journal of Cases on Information Technology (JCIT), International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS), AIS Transactions on Replication Research, International Journal of Interdisciplinary Telecommunications and Networking, Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE), Journal of Transforming Government: People, Process and Policy, (JTGPPP), Informing Science Journal (ISJ), Campus-Wide Information Systems (CWIS), Annals of Information Systems, The Internet and Higher Education (IHE), Interdisciplinary Journal of Information, Knowledge, and Management (IJIKM), journal of Computers & Education, the International Journal of Information and Communications Technology Education (IJICTE), Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce (JIBC), Interdisciplinary Journal of e-Skills and Lifelong Learning, as well as in several refereed conference proceedings. Additionally, he published invited book and encyclopedia chapters. Dr. Levy is the recipient of the IJICTE 1(3) Editor's Award of Excellence for his research study, the recipient of the Best Paper Award in a 2006 conference, as well as the Best Paper Award and Best Research in Progress Award in numerous conferences. He served as the executive chair of the technical program/proceedings committee for the IEEE SoutheastCon 2005 conference as well as a co-chair of the information systems track in the same conference. In 2015, he chaired again the technical program and proceedings committee for the IEEE SoutheastCon 2015 conference overseeing 170 papers and 24 posters. Dr. Levy was the editor of the Proceedings for the IEEE SoutheastCon 2005 and 2015 Conferences. He served as the co-chair of the Workshop of Information Security and Privacy (WISP) 2012 and 2015 - at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). Additionally, Dr. Levy chaired and co-chaired multiple sessions/tracks of his research area in recognized scientific conferences. Between 2006 and 2011, Dr. Levy was serving as the founding Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the International Journal of Doctoral Studies (IJDS). He is serving as Associate Editor for the Joural of Information and Computer Security (ICS), Senior Editor for Online Journal of Applied Knowledge Management (OJAKM), editorial board member of the journal of Computers & Security (CoSe), Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS), and other scientific/academic conferences. Dr. Levy is serving as an reviewer for the premiere journals of , International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS), Sage Open, Computer & Education, and Journal of Organizational and End User Computing (JOEUC). He's been serving as an advisory board member for the Online Journal of Applied Knowledge Management (OJAKM) and a founding member of the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management (IIAKM), from which he was recognized as a 'Fellow and Distinguished Scholar' in 2013, as well as the Recipient of 'Lifetime Academic Achievement Award' from IIAKM in 2014. Since August, 2015, he is serving as the President and Executive Director of IIAKM. He is an IEEE Senior Member, and a member of the IEEE Cybersecurity Initiative. In 2015, he was elected President of the AIS's Special Interest Group on Information Security and Privacy (SIGSEC), and since 2018 has been serving as treasurer of SIGSEC. Also, Dr. Levy has been serving as a member of conference proceedings committee for numerous scholarly conferences. Moreover, he has been serving as a referee research reviewer for hundreds of national and international scientific journals, conference proceedings, as well as IS and cybersecurity textbooks.
      Dr. Levy has been an active member of the US Secret Service (USSS)'s - Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force (MECTF) and The South Florida Cybercrime Working Group (SFCWG). He was trained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on various topics, and actively serves as a Board Member and Education Sector Chief on the FBI run InfraGard Member Alliance, and consults federal agencies, state and local government groups on cybersecurity topics. He is also a frequent invited keynote speaker at national and international meetings, as well as regular media interviews as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on cybersecurity topics.
      Dr. Levy’s teaching interests and courses taught in the masters level include fundamentals of cybersecurity, information systems security, management information systems, e-commerce, system analysis and design, web development, telecommunications and networking, enterprise architecture and infrastructure, and information security project management. His teaching interests and courses taught in the doctoral level include Information Security Risk Management, Cybersecurity Management, Advanced Multivariate Research Methods and Statistics, as well as Information Systems Development (ISD).
      On a personal note, Dr. Levy lives in Miami with his wife, two kids, and their amazing Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
